Profile
About Tahlia Howard
Tahlia is a proud Aboriginal woman with Gundungurra heritage, originally from the Hunter Valley, NSW. Tahlia began her professional journey in 2015, studying both Business and Law (Honours), and received her Diploma in Legal Practice in 2019.
After first working across health, education and residential development in the construction industry, Tahlia continued into the legal field as a commercial solicitor. Most recently, Tahlia worked with the Department of Defence to lead an integrated workforce through the robust acquisition and sustainment of Advanced Training and Test Environment capabilities.
It was during Tahlia’s time at the Department of Defence, with visibility of tendering and procurement, that she further developed her passion for enabling economic independence for Australia’s First Nations peoples. She saw the need to enhance and develop opportunities for Indigenous businesses and to bring attention to the skills, knowledge and capability Indigenous industry can offer, not only to Defence but to government and corporate Australia.
During her time in the Department of Defence, Tahlia delivered opportunities to the Joint Training Environment through networking, value propositions and challenging the status quo, resulting in the delivery of innovative capability. Tahlia is known for her passion, positivity and drive to deliver the best results for all stakeholders in a pragmatic, trusted and commercially sensitive manner.
Tahlia brings unique experience across the private and public sectors and seeks to apply her knowledge, strategic thinking and leadership skills to build a platform from which Indigenous entrepreneurs and business owners can excel, both in Australia and globally.
Tahlia is committed to ongoing learning through networking, higher education, research and experience. In 2016, Tahlia completed an International Marketing course in Norway, which enabled broader, more expansive thinking in business management.
Tahlia enjoys regular surfing, travelling and spending time with friends and family.
